Artist FAQ
How do I sell my artwork on Image Revolver?
Anyone can submit art to Image Revolver, but it’s up to the public to accept it. As long as you follow the basic technical guidelines below, your submissions will be placed in the review queue where they will be voted on prior to acceptance.
How many votes are required before an image is accepted?
Though we’ll keep the specifics secret for now (to prevent voter fraud!), suffice it to say that there needs to be a clear consensus that a submission is worthy of being accepted.
Do I need to offer my art for sale in order to take part in crowd-curation?
Yes. Our mission is to create the finest art collection on the web in order to give the public access to great art. We wouldn’t want to tease our customers with great work if you weren’t willing to sell it to them.
Do I need to submit my work for public review in order to sell my work on Image Revolver?
Yes. Again, our mission is to create the finest art collection on the web. We have tasked the public with helping us with quality control in order to fulfill that mission.
Am I paid less when discounts are offered to buyers?
No. All discounts are offered at our expense—not yours.
Why can’t I name my own prices to sell my work?
We are dedicated to keeping things uncomplicated and affordable for buyers. Also, given that we only sell great art we think it should all be priced the same.
Does Image Revolver own the copyright on my submissions?
When you submit to Image Revolver you simply authorize us to sell your Images. You alone own the copyright.
What do I do if I see an image on the site that I believe infringes on a copyright?
You should send an email to copyright@imagerevolver.com with the image name, artist name and a description of why you believe it infringes on a copyright.
What are the specs required to upload images?
We request that you upload your image at the highest resolution/size you have available so we can offer it in as many sizes as possible. Submissions with an aspect ratio that falls within the range of 1.2-1.37 will be offered in the following sizes: 8 x 10, 11 x 14 and 16 x 20. Submissions with an aspect ratio that falls within the range of 1.37-1.67 will be offered in the following sizes: 8 x 12, 11 x 17, 13 x 19 and 20 x 30.
We require:
- a minimum of 3300 pixels on one side
- a maximum of 7200 pixels on any side
- RGB or Grayscale color mode
- an aspect ratio between 1.2-1.67
Please submit images at their true resolution. We don't accept submissions that have been re-sampled to increase the resolution and/or image size.
* The aspect ratio of an image is the ratio of its longer dimension to its shorter dimension. To find the aspect ratio of your image, simply divide the bigger dimension by the smaller one.
Can I add a border to my image so it fits your aspect ratio requirements?
You should not add a border to your image in order to fit our aspect ratio requirements. The image should fit into our range without a border.
At what print sizes will my images be offered?
Your images will be offered at the print sizes that correspond to the aspect ratio of your submission. Images that fall within the aspect ration range of 1.2-1.37 will be offered at the following standard aspect ratio sizes: 8 x 10, 11 x 14 and 16 x 20. Images that fall within the aspect ratio range of 1.37-1.67 will be offered at the following digital aspect ration sizes: 8 x 12, 11 x 17, 13 x 19 and, for canvasses, 20 x 30. The resolution at which you upload submissions will determine the maximum size at which your images will be offered.

What do I do if I want to submit an exclusive image to another site?
If you decide that you no longer want an image to appear exclusively on Image Revolver, simply send an email to contact@imagerevolver.com with the name of the image and we will make it a non-exclusive image.
Why is the Image Revolver watermark so subtle?
On Image Revolver, art is meant to be enjoyed as high quality prints. We accept that due to the open nature of the internet there is no foolproof way to prevent images from being used in an unauthorized manner. We also feel that it is important to show the artwork to potential buyers without the distraction of an ostentatious watermark. We never show preview images at a size or resolution that makes for reasonable prints.
How can I market my Image Revolver artwork?
Your Manage Account panel offers two ways to promote yourself, a site badge and a personal URL link. You can cut and paste the site badge HTML code on your website, blog, MySpace page, email signature or anywhere else that accepts standard HTML. You can also place your personal URL link on Facebook. When clicked, both will lead to your personal Image Revolver page.
Do I need to fill out my profile?
In order for your images to be accepted, we require you to fill out your profile entirely. People like to know about the artists they follow and collect.
What kinds of images should I upload?
We seek out trend-setting artists to supply fine-art—not stock images. We are looking not just for technical expertise, but also creativity and novelty. We also love art related to specific interests, like photos of antique cars. Beyond this, we are looking for digital art over digitized art. If your art is best appreciated in its non-digital form (for example, as an oil-painting) it is probably not a good fit for us.
We do not accept images that rely heavily on the use of canned filters, so please keep it subtle!
Keep in mind, although our collection is expanding rapidly, we are selective about the art we sell at Image Revolver; all submissions are reviewed for approval before they are posted for sale.
When do I need to use the model and property release forms?
If the image you submit has an identifiable human face or an identifiable privately owned building you need to use the corresponding form. These forms are available on the Legal Page.
